Crown Green Bowls at The Grove

Experience Crown Green Bowls at The Grove Sports & Social Club in Atherstone. Come along and join our friendly community for outdoor bowls on our well-maintained green. Open to players of all abilities.

Club History

The bowls club is situated in Cook’s Close, Atherstone, Warwickshire. CV9 1ES. The club was previously named Atherstone Miners Welfare club and changed names when the old Miners Welfare club was demolished and a new club was built where the old bowls pavilion once stood.

Bowls Leagues

Along with social members, the club play in Coventry Saturday afternoon league, Nuneaton Sunday and Midweek leagues, Baddesley Mine Midweek league and a ladies North Warwickshire team that play on a Thursday evening. We are always looking to welcome new players of any level and can provide bowls and tuition for new players.

The clubs main sponsor is Motor Power Services of Hinckley
The green is generally available for play from April until late September

Club Honours

2022 proved to be the most successful season’s for the bowling clubs history. We were winners of the Nuneaton Mid week A league, Baddesley Mine Midweek division 2, finished runners up in Nuneaton Sunday B league and Runners up in the Coventry Saturday league division 2.

Bowls For Health

2024 the club ran a ‘Bowls for Health’ campaign to introduce new bowlers into the game of crown green bowls. It was run over an eight week period from July to September and was a great success attracting 16 new social bowlers into the club. There are plans to stage a similar event in 2025. The Saturday ‘A’ side achieved success in winning the Coventry mixed league division 2 along with the Mens Nuneaton side winning the Pearson Cup.
